Dear Racing Enthusiast,
Braulio Baeza, distinguished Hall of Fame jockey, has been involved in racing his entire life, most notably as a Hall of Fame jockey but also as a trainer for many years. Originally from Panama, Mr. Baeza has served as a Jockey’s Room Assistant, Assistant Clerk of Scales, and Alternate Steward for NYRA and the Jockey Club, as well as being a well-spring of pertinent and authoritative advice for jockeys of all ages and experience.
Mr. Baeza has always conducted himself with the utmost integrity and has earned the respect of all who know him and know of his accomplishments. You may be aware, however, that he faces serious charges by the Attorney General of New York related to his duties as the Assistant Clerk of Scales for NYRA. Now seeking to vindicate him, and Thoroughbred racing in general, Mr. Baeza’s friends are calling on the racing community for financial support to ensure that his case will end in a true and just conclusion.
To help cover Mr. Baeza’s mounting legal bills, the Friends of Braulio Fund hosted an auction during the illustrious Saratoga meeting. This auction included unique photographs by Barbara Livingston and Bob Coglianese; captivating paintings by leading equine artists, racing memorabilia donated by fellow jockeys Jerry Bailey, Ron Turcotte, and Jean Cruguet, among others, as well as many other curios of the Thoroughbred racing genre.
The auction was not only fun but a great success, but more help is needed. We plan to fesature SILENT AUCTION items on this website. Please stay tuned.
Please also consider a direct donation to the Friends of Braulio Fund. Give back to someone who has given his life to Thoroughbred racing. Mail checks to: Friends of Braulio, P.O. Box 62, Elmont, NY 11003.
We appreciate the concern and affection shown Mr. Baeza to date and thank you in advance for your ongoing support for his effort to clear his good name.
